Admission, Application and Registration Process
Admission to Summer Sessions
Since Summer Sessions has “open enrollment,” high school graduates, adult learners and students visiting from other colleges and universities are welcome to apply. High school students, who have not yet graduated are welcome to apply to one of our Pre-College Programs .
Some courses have specific prerequisites which are indicated in the UCSB General Catalog. Registration in an individual course is allowed only if a student can satisfy all of the course’s prerequisites.
Admission to Summer Sessions does not constitute admission or readmission to the undergraduate or graduate programs at UCSB.

- Non-UC International Students—from foreign countries must enroll for Summer Sessions through our UCSB Extended Learning Services’ Summer Program for International Students (SPIS). Additional information can be found on their website —www.unex.ucsb.edu/ip/spis/. Prospective students from foreign countries considering traveling to the U.S. using a Visitors (B-2 or other visitor status) visa should note that U.S. immigration regulations do not allow individuals to enter the U.S. with a Visitors visa when the primary purpose is to pursue full-time study. Students from foreign countries already in the U.S. in a valid immigration status (i.e. as an F-1 student at another institution, or in another valid non-immigrant status) should consult their international student advisor before attending UCSB Summer Sessions. All students having non-immigrant visas are required to carry health insurance for themselves and any family members who accompany them to Santa Barbara.

Persons who are eighteen or older may audit courses without undertaking the prescribed work of the class and without receiving credit, providing the instructor approves their attendance. Regularly enrolled students are given preference over auditors. Auditors may obtain a Request to Audit form at the Summer Sessions Office. This form must be signed by the instructor and returned to the Summer Sessions Office with the $20 Auditor Student Processing Fee by the end of the first week that the course is in session.
