Passport Information
U.S. Citizens
If you already have a passport, check the expiration date now. It must fall after the completion of the Travel Study program. You can apply for a new passport or a renewal in one of several ways:
- Apply online at http://travel.state.gov/ Visit the Santa Barbara County Clerk's Office at 1101 Anacapa Street, Santa Barbara (805-568-2250).
- Expedite your passport through the U.S. Passport Agency at 1100 Wilshire Blvd. #1000, Los Angeles, CA 90024
(310-575-5700 for a mandatory appt.).
For a new passport, you will likely need the following items:
- Passport Application,
- Proof of citizenship, which can be any of the following:
- Certified birth certificate (not the hospital version), previously issued
- Passport (expired or near expiration)
- Naturalization certificate
- Current identification with both your photo and signature on it
- Social Security Number
- Two (2) passport photos (you can get these at Kerr Hall Photographic Services, any copy shop, or any Costco)
- Passport application fee ($100.00)
APPLY EARLY! Passport processing takes 4-8 weeks!
Non-U.S. Citizens
You will need to contact your home country's nearest consulate or embassy in order to find out the passport application procedure. Non-U.S. citizens will also need to contact Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) http://uscis.gov (213-526-7647) in order to ensure their legal return to the U.S.
