Spanish 200SS Linguistic Analysis
Study of the phonological and syntactic structure of modern Spanish for students with a functional command of the language; emphasis placed on developing ability to analyze grammatical structures and phonetic principles related to the learning and teaching of Spanish.
Spanish 201SS Writing Strategies and Approaches
Development of writing skills through writing original compositions. Reading and discussion of selected masterpieces to acquaint the student with a variety of styles. Further grammar review.

A close reading of selected modern and contemporary texts in prose and poetry, that will be set in their historical contexts and carefully analyzed so as to bring out their meaning(s) or intention(s).

A survey of the major events that shaped Spain as a modern state. The intellectual movements that nurtured and sustained the contemporary Spanish state will also be studied.

A panoramic but in-depth presentation of the major historical and cultural events that give coherence and diversity to the Spanish-speaking countries of the Western Hemisphere.
Spanish 209SS Don Quijote
A close reading of both parts of the novel, setting it into its historical context, with appropriate discussion of key episodes.
Spanish 210SS Spanish Language in the World
The origin, development , and spread of the Spanish language and culture throughout the world from pre-Roman times to current issues facing the Spanish-speaking population in the United States.
Spanish 500CS Comprehensive Exam Study for Second Year Students
Guided exam preparation for second year students.
NOTE : Students must have their M.A. Essay completed at the beginning of the summer term to be able to take this course. Essays will be turned in to the appropriate instructor and grade will then be turned over to the 500CS instructor. Students cannot pass 500CS without receiving a satisfactory (B or above) grade on their M.A. Essay.

Spanish 211AS Approaches to the Spanish Curriculum
An overview of Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino literature from the second half of the twentieth century through today, with an emphasis on texts that teachers can incorporate into their curriculum.
Spanish 211BS Technology and Language Learning
Basic concepts of modern theories of language and language acquisition. This will acquaint students with an in-depth exploration of fundamental concepts in Spanish teaching. Topics include classroom discourse, teaching approaches, listening, speaking, reading, writing, principles of language testing, computer-based foreign language teaching.
Spanish 216SS Special Topics in Language & Literature
Studies in subjects of current interest in Spanish and/or Spanish American language and literature, and/or USA literature and language written in Spanish. Topics may vary from year to year and may address a theoretical issue or study literature in the context of other disciplines or other arts. Titles and contents will be announced prior to the beginning of each summer. Course may be repeated for credit.
Spanish 217SS Mexican Culture
A study of the major historical and cultural events that explain modern Mexico. Pre-Columbian cultures, the Colonial Period, Independence, Benito Juarez and Porfirio Diaz, the Mexican Revolution, the Contemporary Scene.
