Our Mission Statement

UCSB Summer Sessions is charged with the responsibility of offering high quality, innovative, and affordable summer programs to high school, undergraduate, and graduate students, as well as members of the local community and general public. Working in partnership with academic departments and campus units, UCSB Summer Sessions is committed to offering outstanding learning opportunities that both complement and enhance the educational experiences offered during the other academic terms.

Summer Sessions offers Unique Advantages for Students

Here are a few reasons students tell us they come to Summer Sessions . . .

Summer Sessions 2010 Dates
There are two six-week sessions (June-21 - July 30 and August 2 - September 10). Within these sessions, classes are offered in 3-, 6-, or 10-week formats.

Summer Sessions 2010 Registration
Registration opens on Monday, April 5 (8:00 am) for UC Students on GOLD. Registration for Non-UC students opens on GOLD beginning Monday, May 3.

Summer Sessions Fees
Summer fees are charged according to the number of credit units taken. In summer 2009, the unit fees for UC continuing students were $173 per unit for undergraduate students and $243 per unit for UC graduate students. There was also a one time campus-based fee of $317.94 for undergraduate students and $126.56 for graduate students. Please be aware that the unit fees for Summer 2010 are not yet determined, please check here for the latest fee information in late January.

10-Unit Fee Cap
This exciting fee incentive program was designed to encourage students to take more summer courses. UC undergrads pay for the first 10 units of study. In other words: take 10 units for a fee and all additional units are FREE!

Summer Financial Aid
Complete financial aid packages are available for all new and continuing UCSB students. (Click here for more information.)

UCSB Summer Sessions Admission
We have open enrollment. UCSB students, interested adults, high school graduates or students from other colleges and universities are welcome. Some courses may have prerequisites, which are stated in the course descriptions. NOTE: Admission into Summer Sessions does not constitute admission or readmission to another academic term at the University of California.

Summer Housing
University Housing will be available for students attending UCSB Summer Session 2010. The on-line application process will open on March 1, 2010, at the following link:

http://www.housing.ucsb.edu/application/summer/default.htm

Students may select accommodations in San Miguel Hall that include options for 3 different meal plans as well as traditional single, deluxe single and double occupancy plans. The deluxe single rate is the same as the traditional single rate and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis as they are limited in availability.

Students may also select University apartment accommodations without meal plans in Santa Ynez, El Dorado and Westgate Apartments.

Final Exams
The majority of final exams will be held on the last scheduled day of the course. However, please be aware that some courses may have a separate three-hour final exam scheduled on the Thursday, Friday or Saturday that follows the last course meeting. Be sure to check with the department or instructor for additional information.

Transferring Credit
In most cases, the credit you earn here is transferable to another university, but check with your home campus to be sure.
