DiscoveryWorks Community Service:  DISCOVERYWORKS COMMUNITY SERVICE @ UC SANTA BARBARA
JUNE 28 - JULY 24, 2009 (4 WEEKS) • 3 UCSB COLLEGE CREDITS

Make a difference on the California coast! Volunteer with us at UC Santa Barbara and earn approximately 60 hours of community service and three UCSB academic credit units. Enjoy enriching opportunities, participating in meaningful projects* such as:

One-day projects* may include supporting the environment through local beach clean-ups or volunteering at the Santa Barbara Art Museum. Participates may also make trips to one of University of California's Agriculture and Natural Resources sites to view and participate in cutting-edge research and efforts in land preservation, advancements in horticulture biotechnology, and ongoing nutrition and ensuring healthier foods programs.

These internship and one-day community service projects create opportunities for career exploration, connect students to the community in a meaningful way, promote the ethics of public service, and augment a unique classroom experience. Participants will enroll in a three-unit, credit-bearing UCSB course taught by one our University's outstanding instructors:

Interdisciplinary Studies 93CS – “Community Service” is an introduction to community service and civic engagement through college-level discussion and readings in the humanities and social sciences. Students will explore ideas and issues in service and civic life and connect their direct experience in projects and internships through class discussions.

Plus enjoy a beautiful oceanfront campus with evening activities, preparing for college workshops, tons of college visits around southern California, full UCSB recreation privileges and great weekend excursions to Universal Studios, Goleta   and Leadbetter beaches, 4 x 4 Hummer Tours, Surfing School, Disneyland, Dodger Baseball and more!

DiscoveryWorks Community Service Program at UCSB tuition is $5,999.
