How does a transfer student decide which session to attend?
The session you attend is the one that offers the course(s) you need or want. New transfer students should always first talk to the advisor for their specific major before enrolling in courses. The advisor will analyze your unofficial transcript and previous coursework, then make a recommendation for your summer courses. Next, you can look for those courses and the session(s) they are offer by using the online summer catalog at: UCSB Summer Sessions Schedule . Then you can enroll in the course(s) in GOLD.
Most transfer students enroll in courses during Session A, B or both A & B. In addition, some majors, like Communication, offer many courses during 3-week sessions. Thus, your advisor might recommend that you take a 6-week course and a 3-week course.
To summarize, first consult with the advisor for your major about courses you need, then find out when those courses are offered, then plan your summer accordingly.
Note: Summer Housing in University-owned apartments is available in 6-week contracts. This means that if you are ONLY taking ONE 3-week course, you will need make other housing arrangements.
