2009 Summer Course Fees & Financial Aid

How much does a course cost during the summer?
A fee is charged for each unit in a course. Unit fees pay for the instructional costs of the course, such as the instructor's salary. To calculate the cost of a course, multiple the number of units by the unit fee.   $173 is the proposed unit fee for summer 2009. Most summer courses are worth 4 units.

What other fees are charged for taking courses during the summer?
While you take courses at UCSB, you are also eligible to take advantage of all the special services on campus. Because these services are available to all UCSB students, the fees are mandatory. These services are bundled into two categories.

The summer Transition program fee: $45—This fee supports all the special events and programming offered exclusively to summer transfer students.

The summer campus-based fee: $317.94—This fee gives you unlimited access to campus-based services for all undergraduate students. Some of these services include use of the Recreation Center, Career Counseling, and study support from Campus Learning Assistance.

To summarize the fees:

$173 per course unit
$317.94 for campus-based services
$45 for summer Transitions programming
(Note: All fees are proposed pending approval.)
