TRANSITIONS @ Work Department Information (2007)

Transitions @ Work is a summer program designed to assist newly-admitted transfer students make a smooth, effective transition to UCSB prior to Fall quarter. As part of this campus-wide effort, a summer work incentive program — TRANSITIONS @ WORK —offers new transfer students easy access to employment opportunities as well as helps campus departments find summer student staff support. If your department hires a newly-admitted transfer student during the summer term, who is taking at least one (1) summer course, the department is eligible to be reimbursed 50% of his/her salary, up to a maximum of $600 per summer term transfer student employee.   The requirements of this work program are:

To apply, departments should complete the Position Announcement Form (pdf or Word doc) and send it to Summer Sessions. The information on this form will be used to post your position on our website* for TRANSITIONS students to access. Funding is limited. Positions are available on a first-come first served basis.

At the end of the summer term, departments will be sent the reimbursement form that they will need to submit to the Office of Summer Sessions no later than November 1, 2007. Funds will be transferred to your department account, fund 19900-2 after the reimbursement form is received and the employment is verified.

* Departments may also find it helpful to use the job listing service- GauchoLink - through Counseling and Career Services to further advertise any position for summer transfer students. (Go to www.career.ucsb.edu ; click on "Job Search", then click on "Employers".) You may advertise your positions giving priority to new transfer students taking summer courses. Questions about posting your job via GauchoLink may be directed to Olivia Quiroga (ext. 4418) in the Counseling and Career Services office.
