As a newly admitted UC Santa Barbara freshman or transfer student, you don’t have to wait until Fall Quarter to start your educational journey -- there are many options available to you in the summer! The Summer Quarter (from June 22 – September 12, 2020) is divided into seven sessions of varying length, and offers more than 700 courses representing all disciplines. No matter where you are from, all students pay the same tuition and fees as California residents during the Summer term.
Students leverage Summer Sessions to make progress toward their degree year-round, with approximately 70% of UC Santa Barbara undergraduates taking summer courses before graduating. Summer Sessions can be an effective way to get ahead academically, add another major or minor, dive into a special interest area, meet requirements to participate in Education Abroad, and more. With so many options available, your summer experience is highly customizable.
As a newly admitted freshman or transfer student, you’re invited to take advantage of our Freshman Summer Start Program (FSSP) or Transfer Edge, each experience thoughtfully designed to set you up for success at UC Santa Barbara. If you explore these opportunities but find they aren’t right for you, you can still get an academic head start by enrolling in courses during Session A – G. For specific information, please explore the links for Incoming Freshmen or Incoming Transfers.
We're glad you're joining the UC Santa Barbara family, and we can't wait to see you this summer!
